Village Hall Association March Report

At the March meeting of the Pittington Village Hall Association it was decided that a summary of the meeting including actions agreed would be published on the website to help keep the community up to date with the current issues facing the committee. To help increase community participation at committee meetings it was decided that future meetings would be held on the third wednesday of every month except for August and that meetings would start at 7pm in the Village Hall Committee Room.

 A number of committee members had attended Durham County Council events relating to the forthcoming asset transfer process. It was confirmed that the Village Hall must undergo asset transfer before March 2014 or be closed down. The process should begin properly in May 2012.

It was noted that the Pittington Voluntary Community are planning a parish newsletter to go to all households in the parish and that the Village Hall will be able to include it’s news within the newsletter. The first issue will be ready after Easter.

The Treasurer has received a number of quotations for installation of a phone line and broadband and will be arranging for the required work to be carried our within the next few weeks. 

Sections Reports

GFS won the GFS and Headlam shields for craftwork at a recent Diocesan event at Shildon.

Pittington Brass Band has an engagement at the Sherburn Hill Salvation Army Hall on 21st April at 7pm.

The Youth Club reported that it’s recent disco was well attended.

Other Business

Two representatives from Belmont Communit School attended the meeting to talk the the committee about a fundraising project they would like to do as part of their studies. The group would like to stage a Pittington’s Got Talent event to raise money towards the refurbishment of the Village Hall. The committee were all in favour of the scheme and commended the pair on their presentation. More details would be discussed at a later date, including entry and raffle prices and a ‘menu’ of projects that could be funded by the money raised.
