The Post Office is proposing to move the Pittington branch from its current location at 9 Graham Terrace, into the Village Shop to “create a modern open-plan branch with improved access and significantly extended opening hours for customers”.
The Post Office is inviting members of the public to give their comments on the move in a public consultation which closes on January 4.
Speaking to the Northern Echo Post Office regional network manager for the North-East, Sue Richardson, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in High Pittington and we are confident that this new modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.”
She added: “The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6000 branches -about half the Post Office network – converting to new-style branches.”
Opening hours at the proposed new location will be from 6am to 8.30pm from Monday to Saturday and from 6am to 4.30pm on Sunday – an extra 63 hours a week.
