Saturday 14th July sees Pittington Brass Band take part in the 128th Durham Miners’ Gala. The parade gathers in the Market Place from 8:30am before beginning the march to the Racecourse Field.
The organisers expect up to 50 bands to take part with around 70 banners.
This year sees Labour leader Ed Milliband accept an invitation to speak. The Racecourse Field will host musical and other entertainment throughout the day with the speeches starting at around 12:15pm. The annual Gala Cathedral service begins at 3pm and will include the blessing of a number of new banners.
Visitors are recommended to use the Park and Ride service as road closures and restrictions will be more wide spread than in previous years due to the Labour leader’s presence.
