The dissolution of Pittington Village Hall Association and the transfer of all assets to a newly formed incorporated charity to be called Pittington Community Association. The transfer to an incorporated organisation is a requirement of the asset transfer process put in place by Durham County Council.

Election of the committee.

Arthur Christmas reveals the incredible, never-before seen answer to the question: ‘So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?’ The answer: Santa’s exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole.

Entry will be just £2. Refreshments will be available. The film is rated a PG so all ages are welcome.

This showing is the start of a new long-term agreement with the mobile cinema following on from the successful pilot that finished earlier this year.

Last month Pittington Village Hall Association agreed to a timetable for Asset Transfer with Durham County Council. The first stage was to commit to the process through a letter of intent which was also completed last month.

The next stage is to submit a five year business plan to show the Council that we can make the Village Hall an independent, sustainable organisation for the foreseeable future. The business plan needs to be completed by 17th January. Also by this date we need to have identified sources of funding for any necessary capital works, for example repairing the roof!

By the end of January we should have an agreement in principal to the asset transfer from DCC. The final stage is then to agree and sign the new lease which should be done in May 2013.

One of the requirements of the asset transfer process is that we as an organisation become an incorporated body, which means that we need to set up a new company to take control of the Village Hall. This will be a company limited by guarantee meaning that is both a limited company and a charity. We are hoping to have the new company set up before the end of this year.

The formal switch from the existing Village Hall Association to the new company needs agreement from our members. We aim to allow all members the chance to vote on the dissolution of the current charity and the transfer of it’s current assets to the new company at our Annual General Meeting during January 2013. We will be fixing the date of this meeting shortly, keep an eye on the website for date and time.

What we need now is to find out what you want from your village hall in the future. It is important that we can show the County Council that our plans represent what the whole community wants. In order to do so we need as much input from you as possible. If there is something you would like to see at the Village Hall that we don’t currently offer then please let us know, this could be additional activities by people using the hall or completely new services.

You can get in touch with us in a number of ways – use the comment facility on this page; send an email from the contact us page; write to us at the village hall or come along to one of our committee meetings.

The Post Office is inviting members of the public to give their comments on the move in a public consultation which closes on January 4.

Speaking to the Northern Echo Post Office regional network manager for the North-East, Sue Richardson, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in High Pittington and we are confident that this new modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.”

She added: “The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6000 branches -about half the Post Office network – converting to new-style branches.”

Opening hours at the proposed new location will be from 6am to 8.30pm from Monday to Saturday and from 6am to 4.30pm on Sunday – an extra 63 hours a week.

In support of the Asset Transfer of Pittington Village Hall from Durham County Council to a new community organisation, we are holding a Christmas Market to help raise funds for the refurbishment of OUR Village Hall.

We have secured some really lovely, top quality stalls selling unique items at exceptionally good prices, including homemade soap, homemade candles, personalised gifts and decorations, jewellery, personalised word art, jams & preserves, wreaths & garlands, Usbourne Books, hand knitted baby and children’s wear, ‘on trend’ fingernail art (perfect for fashion conscious girls and women!) Perfect gifts for even the most discerning. There will be a cafe selling beverages, bacon butties, cakes etc.

Letters from Santa can be requested and we have ordered some Reindeer Food/Dust from our suppliers in the North Pole – in order not to upset the Reindeers’ tummies or harm the environment the dust is made from edible, non-toxic glitter. There will also be face painting, a raffle and much, much more.

Check out the event on our Facebook page for some great pictures from stall holders - http://www.facebook.com/events/516643881698189/

The final report by Durham County Council into Community Rooms has proposed that Southbrook House, High Pittington be closed with immediate effect and that Durham City Homes will be allowed to redevelop the property as they see fit.

The full report which can be found here considers the future of 55 communal rooms in County Durham goes before the DCC Cabinet on 24th July. While most of the rooms will continue to be maintained by housing providers, and some will even receive extra support from providers, Southbrook House is one of two currently active properties where ”the housing provider would wish to take immediate action to convert into living accommodation to help meet the high levels of housing demand, to demolish or find an alternative use for the benefit of local tenants.”

Unlike the original report into Community Buildings which proposed asset transfer for both Pittington Village Hall and Southbrook House, this report gives no option of asset transfer. DCC justify their decision bases on the relatively low usage of Southbrook House and it’s proximity to an alternative venue.
